Memory Trick - Clever Threshold Reminder

This was originally designed for clever engineers who forget.
Each line is the product of bitter experience and frustration by a
boss who paid for educated people to travel great distances and
then say: "Oh yeah, silly me, I forgot the door code or forgot my
tools to do the job, the job component, my wallet etc…"

“We have had an engineer have to drive from Brisbane back to the Gold coast
during work time because he had left his wallet behind on the job earlier in the day.”

Use this handy threshold reminder when you pass through any door from
your home, your work or your car.

When you leave one place to go to another place you pass through a threshold…
at that threshold moment stop! . . . for a moment … then check the following:

✂︎ -------------------------

Where am I going? – Name, Address, Street Directory?
When am I going? – Time, Date from Appointment Diary?
What do I need? – Keys, Sunglasses, Ticket or Toll Money?
Who will I see? – Do I know their name, phone number?
What shall I need? – Docs, Lunch money, Business cards?
What shall I take? – Tools, Parts, Work Book, Laptop?
How will I get in? – Keys, Code or Contact Phone No?
Is my phone charged and receiving calls? GPS working?
Did I need any personal items such as a coat or sunglasses?
Did I promise to do something, which I may have written down?
Am I appropriately dressed? Do I need a change of clothes?
Do I have enough time? – Do I have a second place to go?

✂︎ -------------------------

On the job, create a WORK ZONE where only you will be working. Anything used on a job and left out of sight will be left behind while anything in clear view is asking to be stolen when you are not present. Be in the habit of tidying up as you work or if you move away from your work zone.

Keep disassembled screws in a bin and job-rubbish in a plastic bag. Don’t leave wire-strippings, drink cans or lolly wrappers on your job. Be in the habit of not placing tools
on ceiling tiles or on ledges. Place everything together in a group before you begin moving out as you will surely be interrupted by some form of farewell distraction.

Get your paper work done early and arrange for the person you may need at the finish to know when you will be leaving.

Keep tax invoices and note serial numbers and all the parts used.

Divide you tools into kits and remove any unnecessary or duplicated tools and do not keep broken tools or damaged replacement parts in your tool box. The job is not finished until all the tools are tidied. The tidy up is job-chargeable.

Repeat the THRESHOLD REMINDER when leaving!
